Liebherr LTM11200-9.1 Mobile Crane System

Post by Pete Coleman » Wed Jan 11, 2012 4:20 pm

After an astonishing run of incredible events, I am very pleased to be able to report that I have been lucky enough to be able to place an order for some beautiful 1:50th scale die-cast collectible models.
Some of you may recall that a short while ago I was talking about ordering a small (H.O.) crane kit as and when I could afford it- forget that!
Now, I don't recommend that you go looking up the prices for these models as it will confirm your suspicions that I am completely and totally bonkers...
These models are very close to 1:48th "O" scale or 1/4" scale depending on your preference. Corgi produce a range of die-cast lorries in this scale.
First up is the fantastic NZG Models, Liebherr LTM 11200-9.1 Crane Body Carrier and Boom System.
Everything is beautifully detailed and is fully operational.
In the following image it is only extended to 1/8th of it's total height!
When standing on the floor of my flat it should actually exceed the height of my ceiling and that's without the lattice extensions that one can buy for it!
These huge cranes have found their niche in the erection of windmill turbine generators on "wind-farms".
Typically they arrive on site loaded onto three or four specialist trucks.
They are capable of lifting 1,200 tonnes at a radius of 10 metres.
With maximum full luffing jib extension set added it can lift to a height of 196 metres...

Secondly, I have also ordered from WSI in Germany, a Mercedes Actros MP3 Titan 8X4 tractor unit along with a 6 axle Nooteboom ballast trailer.
This to take the ancillary equipment required by the crane.
I have not ordered a separate boom carrier as I shall almost certainly have the boom permanently attached to the crane body carrier.

I have also ordered a crew van just for fun and also as a comparison for sizing up the massive crane.
I am of course now on tenterhooks waiting for delivery, should be in the next few days.
I promise an in-depth review when they do arrive!
Cheers,
Pete.
Best regards, Pete. (A.O.T.F.) :character-spongebobdance:

Wow! I guess you lot just aren't into this, funny I thought all blokes liked cranes? Oh well, I'll continue to make some postings anyway!
I spent this afternoon cobbling this thing together out of scrap bits and pieces.
I'm not really sure what it's meant to be other than something for the crane to lift...
Still and all, it's better than paying £60 odd pounds for a length of painted metal pipe and calling it a windmill column!
Crane arrives tomorrow, (Friday), I bet I don't sleep too well tonight.....
Cheers,
Pete.

I reckon the crane could probably lift my HMS Surprise, it's the right scale! x9x
