Auflageböcke

Post by Pete Coleman » Tue Feb 14, 2012 11:13 am

Below are some pictures of a pair of crane boom support frames (auflageböcke) that I am making to Liebherr's original drawing.
They would sit on a flat-bed trailer and hold the crane's main boom assembly for transport to the work site.
There is a chap in Germany that will make a set for me in brass, however they would cost some 45 Euros.
I thought it would be a challenge to have a go at making them myself from "Evergreen" scraps and also to save some money!
They will have wooden slats attached to the inside of the curved surface to alleviate paint and structural damage to the boom.
Cheers,
Pete.

That looks to be a fine bit of styrene fettlin' you have done there, but no more than I would expect from Evergreen Pete. XCLAPX

Thank you chaps for your kind words.
I will be breaking the crane down soon so that I can take some pictures of the boom loaded onto a trailer.

I did attempt a first lift of HMS Surprise using just the spreader bar system (and not the crane) that I had made: x11x
The weak point where the very thin rings that I had used.
I am almost certain that the crane can lift Surprise's dead weight of just about 7 kilos.
I just need to make a purpose built lifting frame first.....
Cheers,
Pete.
